• Random Media Announces “Happily Ever After” for March 15th Release

    March 14, 2016

    Los Angeles – March 2016

Remember that one person you swore would be your best friend forever?

     Synopsis:

Heather, an edgy documentary filmmaker in her twenties (Janet Montgomery), reluctantly agrees to film the wedding video for her former high school best friend Sarah Ann (Sara Paxton) when her father’s illness forces her to return to the small town she hated. In this delightful comedy-drama about family and secrets Heather is convinced that she and the seemingly carefree bride-to-be have nothing in common – except perhaps the high school teacher they both fell in love with (Tom Cullen).

    About The Movie:

With its skillful mix of drama and comedy Happily Ever After shows both the joy and pain that can accompany a long friendship in this story about two young women who were once inseparable but grew apart as they made different choices in life.

Starring an intergenerational cast: Janet Montgomery (Salem, Dancing on the Edge), Sara Paxton (Aquamarine, The Innkeepers), Alex Kingston (TV’s E.R., Moll Flanders), Academy Award nominee Peter Firth (M.I.5, Risen) and Tom Cullen (TV’s Downton Abbey, Weekend).

Written and directed by Joan Carr-Wiggin (If I Were You, A Previous Engagement). Carr-Wiggin prides herself on writing roles for women that go far beyond the two dimensional wife and girlfriend roles that are all too often how female characters are presented in movies.Carr-Wiggin wanted to do a film about female friendship, the often-complicated relationship that is usually misrepresented in film as cruel rivalry or simple sentiment. As Carr-Wiggin says, “If female filmmakers don’t write good roles for women, who will?”

Produced by: David Gordian and Alan Latham

Story by: Joan Carr-Wiggin and Savitri Gordian

Screenplay & Directed by: Joan Carr-Wiggin

  • RANDOM MEDIA & HAROLD LLOYD ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE ITUNES DEBUT OF 100 YEARS OF HAROLD LLOYD

    December 14, 2015

    Los Angeles – December 2015

Random Media and Harold Lloyd Entertainment are pleased to announce the release of 100 Years of Harold Lloyd, fifteen works from the library of legendary silent film star Harold Lloyd. Seven features and eight shorts will be available for rental or download to own on iTunes beginning December 15th in the US and around the world.

Harold Lloyd (1893-1971) was one of the great comic stars of the cinema, a genius on par with Chaplin and Keaton. Yet, he came from a humble background, and perhaps this was the key to his affinity with “the ordinary man” who does extraordinary things. His motion picture career spanned 34 years and over 200 comedies. Among his most famous films are Grandma’s Boy (1922), Safety Last! (1923), The Freshman (1925), The Kid Brother (1927), Speedy (1928), and Movie Crazy (1932).

100 Years of Harold Lloyd will be available in three packages: The Films: a package of seven films; The Shorts Vol. 1, a package of three shorts; and The Shorts Vol. 2, a package of five shorts. The films will be released in various languages in over fifteen countries, many for the first time.

The feature films included in the package are: Dr. Jack (1922), Why Worry? (1923), Safety Last! (1923), The Freshman (1925), For Heavens Sake (1926), The Kid Brother (1927), Speedy (1928). The shorts included are: An Eastern Westerner (1920), High and Dizzy (1920), Never Weaken (1921) in the first, and Take a Chance (1918), Young Mr. Jazz (1919) The Marathon (1919), Bumping into Broadway (1919), His Royal Slyness (1920), in the second.

This unprecedented release follows on the heels of the Criterion Collection’s DVD and Blu-ray debut of Speedy, Lloyd’s final silent film.

“We are honored to be able to bring this collection of extraordinary films to an international audience,” Eric Doctorow, CEO of Random Media said. “Partnering with Criterion and iTunes made this possible and we are grateful for their help to make this happen.”

Sue Lloyd, Harold’s granddaughter and CEO of Harold Lloyd Entertainment, said, “This is a very thrilling way to bring Harold Lloyd to the digital age with his death-defying stunts and pure humor to the new generation with genuine laughter.”

Towards the end of his life, Lloyd himself stated, “It has been amazing to me that these comedies can still strike a responsive note of laughter with audiences of all ages and in all parts of the world. Laughter is the universal language. It establishes a common identity among people—regardless of other differences. It is the sweetest sound in the whole world.”

In 1999 the FBI stormed his offices in an attempt to confiscate his computer model and then accused him of a 3 billion dollar Ponzi scheme. However, ARMSTRONG tells a different story. He says it was an attempt to silence him and to prevent him from initiating a public discourse on the real Ponzi scheme of debts that the world has been building up for decades.

  • PROVOCATIVE ‘THE VISIT: AN ALIEN ENCOUNTER’ IMAGINES A VISIT FROM OUTER SPACE

    October 2, 2015

Los Angeles Times – October 2015

Danish director Michael Madsen (not to be confused with the American actor) builds his latest film around a what-if scenario — hardly an unusual strategy. Except that Madsen makes documentaries.

As its narration states, “The Visit” (not to be confused with the M. Night Shyamalan feature) “documents an event that has never taken place” — that event being the arrival on Earth of intelligent life from space.

Madsen has assembled a U.S.- and Euro-centric array of astrophysicists, military officers, theologians, psychologists and lawyers, most of whom address the camera, and the imaginary alien “you,” with burning questions: “What makes you happy?” “What do you care about?” “Why are you here?”

Some get into their roles more than others. And there are moments bordering on parody, as when two British officials agree that David Attenborough should be the designated voice of calm while world leaders sort out the nature of the extraterrestrials’ visit.

The film, whose full title is “The Visit: An Alien Encounter,” at first feels like a bizarre exercise in conjecture or a brainstorming session for fiction writers, but it turns into a provocative and moving philosophical inquiry. Madsen brings our collective sense of identity into sharp relief through the lens of what could be called a first date with mysterious beings. In explaining who we are to these strangers, do we share our darker truths — say, our capacity for mutually assured destruction?

Using well-curated archival footage and stills, a music cue borrowed from Stanley Kubrick and a dreamlike first-contact simulation, Madsen conjures a sci-fi atmosphere that’s at once eerie, doleful and awed. He reveals a few hard facts, too: The job title Director of Interstellar Message Composition, for example, is indeed a thing.

Directed by Michael Madsen, “THE VISIT: An Alien Encounter“ documents an event that has never taken place – man’s first encounter with intelligent life from space.

With unprecedented access to the Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, experts from NASA, ISU (International Space University), SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial intelligence) Institute, and military advisors, “THE VISIT: An Alien Encounter” builds up a chillingly believable scenario of first contact on Earth.

The film begins with the simplest of questions posed to alien life forms: Why are you here? How do you think? The implications of an alien encounter unfold within a mind-bending landscape of everyday sights and sounds turned bizarre and extraordinary, as if seen through the eyes of a life form exploring our planet for the first time. “THE VISIT: An Alien Encounter” is also a journey from the human perspective, revealing the fears, hopes, and rituals of a species forced not only to confront alien life forms, but also its own self-image.

  • Sundance Science Fiction “Documentary” The Visit Makes Contact with Random Media

    May 8, 2015

Los Angeles, CA – Random Media has acquired all North American rights for acclaimed Danish documentarian Michael Madsen’s latest film, The Visit. The film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, where Madsen was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema – Documentary. Since then, The Visit has gone on to a number of screenings, at festivals from Switzerland to Istanbul.

Described as a “speculative documentary” by Twitch, The Visit has been hailed as “realistic, contemplative and surprisingly credulous” by The Hollywood Reporter. Variety said, “it is likely to engross anyone intrigued by the topic” of extraterrestrial contact.

Ever since the invention of radio and television, humans have been sending signals into outer space, announcing their existence to other civilizations. The Visit documents humanity’s first encounter with intelligent life from another world. Madsen interviews experts who work for little-known departments and agencies inside NASA, the United Nations, SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute, and others who are responsible for preparing for actual alien contact.

Based on his interviews with these scenario planners Madsen constructs a chillingly believable scenario of first contact on Earth. Simple questions are asked: “Why are you here? How do you think? What do you see in humans that we don’t see in ourselves?” Implications unfold within a mind-bending landscape of everyday sights and sounds that are turned bizarre and extraordinary, as if seen through the eyes of a life form exploring our planet and societies for the first time.

The Visit takes viewers on a journey beyond their normal terrestrial perspective, revealing the fears, hopes, and rituals of our species when we are forced to confront alien life forms that may or may not view us as a threat.

Random Media SVP, Acquisitions Bobby Rock negotiated the deal with Linzee Troubh, Head of Sales at Cinetic Media, and Salma Abdalla, Managing Director of Autlook Films, on behalf of the filmmakers. A theatrical release is planned for the autumn.
